RIP Grandpa & First snow

So it's been a little over 2 weeks since my grandfather, Lester D. Shubin (Sept. 27, 1925 - Nov. 20, 2009) died. It's been a very tough time since then. I still feel like he should be at home sitting in front of the tv (which is turned up way too loud). But he had a really nice burial, a nice ceremony and we've been shown so much love and support since he passed on.

Without friends & family, I really don't know where we'd be right now.

On a happier note, it's SNOWING! December 5th, 2009 and we must have about 2 inches by now! It's great! Maybe school will be cancelled or delayed on Monday.

And the closer for this post, my pen pal Mary is going to be coming to Cape May the same time as my family! July 10-24, 2010! Way to exciting!

NSPA/JEA Conference

This is gonna be a short post because I can barely keep my eyes open. This Friday and Saturday 11/13 and 14 I went to a National Scholastic Press Association Journalism conference. It was so amazing! I learned so many things - just sooo many. I got tons of tips and have plenty ideas to take back to my school newspaper! I met people from everywhere: Virginia, Kentucky, Texas, London, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, California! And plenty of other places too. Overall, it was the most amazing experience and to see that Journalism will never die it. While it may be on the internet instead of print media - there is always news!

This is Halloween

BOO! Did I scare you? Well it's only been 2 weeks since I've posted, so that's pretty darn good for me. not much going on. Can't wait for Halloween! I just pulled a leg muscle carrying some box in from outside. And I'm supposed to be taking a dog on a walk now. So that should be interesting and very painful! Yippee. Well, I'll write more on Sunday if I remember. NOthing much going on here. It's cold today :)

Cold weather

the weather is cold now. that's the best kind of weather there is. anyways. I haven't written for a while. I've been so unbelievably busy with school and newspaper. And farmville...ahha! I think I have a farmville problem. seriously, it's all I've been doing lately. Not good :)

So what else is on my mind? Hmm. PSATs today. I hope I did well. I would be so happy if I get a scholarship or any financial help towards college. I'd really like to go to a non-virginia school, but the parentals aren't crazy about that...

so this'll be a short post. more soon, and I really do mean soon!

VMAs & English poem

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with Kanye West! Beyonce has been famous for SO long, and Taylor Swift has only been famous for like 3 years!

You don't get up on the stage when someone is giving an acceptance speech for something they've won, TO SAY THAT SOMEONE ELSE DESERVED IT MORE. no you just don't.

It was such an innapropriate move and it REALLY irked me. I didn't even watch the VMAs but I knew what happened because everyone was posting it on FB and I youtubed it (it was up like 5 minutes after it happened). But seriously, so many people hate Kanye now.

So I wanted to put in a poem I wrote for English. My parents both really liked it, and I was extremely happy to see how it came out. So I thought I'd share it with the world :)

I am from the time of cell phones, from Purell and tide-to-go.
I am from the house with the cat on the mail box.
I am from the family who can’t seem to grow tomatoes, and the family that doesn’t have flowers, in fear that the cats will eat them.
I am from the family that draws a shank bone instead of having a real one for our Passover plate, and the family who wears glasses, from Regina and Rae and Chaim and Bela Loigman.
I am from the avid readers and New Jersey vacation goers.
I’m from the never forget who you are and don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
I am from Judaism. I remember the six million who perished in the Holocaust, and pass that knowledge on.
I am from Alexandria, Virginia by way of Hungary, macaroni and cheese and latkes.
From the time my cousin Ryan bit the table at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, to getting make up on my cousin Monique’s floor, and the time when my brother accidentally flung a sausage at my dad.
I am from Cape May, where there are memories I will never forget. From meeting my pen pal Mary, to seeing dolphins out in the ocean, and the picture perfect moment of my brother Michael and I at dusk on the boardwalk.
I am a nineties baby growing up in the 21st century, where everyone knows who Harry Potter is, and can Google things they don’t know.

bust a move

allo to all of you out there. I'm so bad, I really fell off on the job when it comes to writing in the blog. But I guess the good thing is that I was too busy with friends! Because if I was just avoiding it because I'm lazy, well, that would be sad.

Last day of summer was spent with my best friend in the whole wide world, Allie. We hung out at her house, picked out all of our outfits for the first week of school. watched the incredibles, went to a shopping centre to get ice cream & fries.

the first day of school was really good. english class = ♥ ! geometry is okay, french 3 is pretty good, history sucks, journalism ROCKS and chem sucks. those classes such cause I really don't have any friends in those classes.

So looking foward to journalism and english tomorrow! and getting lockers! my stuff is so heavy. oh and my bus gets home like...2012944 minutes later than it used too.

Yesterday I bought the 17 again movie soundtrack. I'm in love with it. the best songs are on my own by vincent vincent and the villiams, can't say no by the helio sequence, naive by the kooks, bust a move by young mc.

well, I'll try to write again soon! now off to shower and WATCH GLEE! YES SO EXCITED!!

A kitten in the midst

so our family friend adopted a new kitten. but she was at the beach this week, so he is staying with my family until we get back! His current name is Diego - it's going to be changed. He's a little black kitten and he's the cutest little thing!

today I started getting prepared for his arrival. in my room,I put a towel down and a litter box on top of it. Then i got a place mat and put a bowl of water and two bowls of food out. his fosters brought him over with a little ball that is made out of a crinkly material. he loves it so much, it's so much fun to watch him play with it. he's very afraid though! but that is to be expected.

before he was brought up to my room, he was in the kitchen. we brought our cat Brooke in to see him. she definetly smelled him as soon as she walked into the room. Diego growled, hissed, his tail puffed and his ears went down. but then they relaxed.

now it's almost midnight and he is sleeping under my bed. I'm so happy to have him for a week! We haven't had kittens since our cats were kittens themselves!

Virginia: Is it always so boring here?

The answer is YES! Virginia is the most boring place on earth. I'm just glad that my grandparents moved into their condo last week. It's like 3 minutes away from my house. And I absolutely love it. My grandparents love it when I'm there. I helped them program phone numbers into their phones today.

I'm so excited because tomorrow I am going to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince! I really wanted to see it while we were in Cape May, but who wants to waste a day at the beach? Certainly not me. But regardless, I'm excited.

That's all for now. xoxo capemaychick!

Catching up

Sorry that there weren't any posts for the last few days. We were so busy!

Thursday July 23: Rainy day. Woke up around 11 am again. Had breakfast downstairs, forget what we did after that. Then Malia and I ate lunch. PACKED. Brought some stuff over to the next door neighbors. I went to see one of my other neighbors on the next street over. We correspond with each other throughout the year. She's a very nice lady, possibly around my mom's parent's age. She really reminds me of my Great Aunt who passed away a few years ago. Then my family and Malia went into the mall. Got some postcards, taffy, soap, earrings, and a necklace charm. We came home, went on a beach walk and got dinner. Played mini golf - I won again!!! And then had dessert, got another pair of earrings (yay!) and then a jewelry box, lollipop and sand dollar in a glass.

Friday July 24: Just can't believe that today is the last day in Cape May for a whole year. Woke up earlier today, around 10:40 am. Packed after breakfast. Helped mom pack the car (way more full than a car should be). Sat on the porch and finished the book I was reading [Local Girls by Jenny O'Connell]. Malia and I went to the beach and walked for about 45 minutes. We found some really great shells. Came home and showered. Went to Henry's for dinner. We were going to do some shopping but it was lightning off in the distance so we just went home. Had a fudge cone from Morrow's Nut House. Watched tv, read, more tv and then went to bed.

Saturday July 25: Woke up around 8:something. Didn't really eat breakfast. Made sure the car was packed and returned the key to the rent place. Walked to George's for breakfast. I got overheated and had to leave because I was really sick. You have to understand how ridiculous I act when I'm sick. I can't even help it, I just lose it. So the trip to the ferry was pretty miserable. Took some dramamine before we got on the boat. It was a very long ferry ride. Took a partial nap on the ferry. Felt somewhat better when we got off. Took a few naps in the car. Eat "breakfast" (for me, dinner for the rest of my fam + Malia) around 4:30 at Holly's. Was okay the car ride home. Unpacked the car completely. Said good bye to Malia (so sad, going to miss her a lot). Kind of chilled, played with the cats and sorted the mail. We unfortunately think that my Mom has appendicitis, a few calls to the doctor about that. Not sure where we are with that. Hoping for the best and that it's just a bug. It's 11:11 now, going to clean myself up and go to bed.

Not a good traveling day, very dissapointing last day in CM - but hey, what can you do ya know? I will still be using this blog, even though I'm not in CM anymore. Check it whenever you can! FYI - July 10-24, 2010 :) next years dates!

Average day

I'm having a blast with Malia. This morning we woke up around 11 am. We ate breakfast, and then made homemade toll house cookies again. Then we had a late lunch. Dropped cookies off at one of the neighbors, saw their cat and a feral cat that they're feeding. Then we went to the mall. I shopped with Malia. Then we went to the photography shop where my family met the owners this year and now we're friends because they also do cat rescue. We got to see these adorable month old kittens. We spent 2 hours there. We went home after that.

My cousin Jenn came over. We ate dinner and then headed to the boardwalk. We went to the arcade for probably an hour. Then we had black and white milkshakes at the Oasis and they were great. Then we walked home.

Now Malia and I are watching Malcolm in the Middle. Tomorrow will be another fun day with more shopping, the beach and mini golf!

Malia's here!

Hello out there. So today was probably one of my favorite days at the beach. This morning I woke up around 9:30 am. I didn't actually get out until like 11 am. So I eat breakfast and then took a shower. Then my mom and I left around 2 and went to an antique store. We bought a few antique pins, and I got a match box that was adorable (it was like a box with places to put matches) that I'm going to use as a jewelry box. Then we went to the Lobster House to get some food for dinner for today and tomorrow. Then we headed to the ferry. I made two new flat pennies (got a new book to hold them in). And then we saw the ferry pull in and we spotted Malia! Yay! We made a quick stop at the Acme to buy water bottles.

Then we came home and settled and had a snack. Then we started getting ready for the beach. The waves were massive! We spent about 2 hours at the beach. We came home, showered, ate dinner. Then Malia and I headed to the mall. We went into a whole bunch of shops. I bought 6 postcards and a peace sign scarf. Then we went to the boardwalk and had the most delicious funnel cake ever! Then we went into the arcade and played 3 games of skee ball. We also did one of those little photo booth pictures and we each have a strip of 4 photos. Came home, did ankle bracelets and now we are watching Malcolm in the Middle!

Ocean City

So today was a good day. Woke up, had breakfast, read a little. Went to some shops with my mom. Got a pucca shell charm for my charm bracelet. I had a pina coloda smoothie from Avalon Bagels. I came home and I was so excited because I had letters from Betty and Linds! Then I read and wrote back to them and chilled for a while. Then we went into Ocean city. We met my cousins for dinner. Went to the amusement park on the boardwalk and then to a few shops. Got a purple Ocean City, New Jersey sweatshirt and a Cape May charm from a jewelry store. It's about 12:30 am and I'm exhausted. Tomorrow Malia is coming!

Brealey's BDay party

This is going to be a short entry because I'm tired. Today we went to a birthday party for a dog. It was more fun that it sounds! The dog went swimming in the pool! And the party favors were awesome: a tee shirt that says Brealey's Birthday Bash (in the picture) - it says Rachel on the back, an embroidered tote bag that says Rachel also! And a little thing with 2 buttons/iron on thing, and an electronic suduku. It was a really nice gift.

We also went to a few antique stores on the way there. I got a bead necklace and 4 old postcards (which is my new collection). I went on a walk on the beach later and found 7 pieces of beach glass! 5 green and 2 brown.

Homemade cookies

Today we decided to make homemade toll house cookies. It's been my tradition (and my pen pal) to bake cookies, eat some and also bring some to the neighbors & socialize.

We always did the slice 'n bake toll house cookies. This year they were recalled for e. coli so we wanted to steer away from those.

making homemade cookies is actually easier than it sounds. It took around 90 minutes -- not enough oven space, and it's a really crappy oven.

But nonetheless we made the cookies and they were pretty yummy. We brought them to 3 neighbors (two more tomorrow) and spent a great deal of time with each. Causing us to not get to dinner until 10.

Another note: the owners of the house where Callie & Joey (other cat whose name I couldn't remember) were staying, left for home. The new people were there and seemed somewhat fond of the cats. We found out that they, like us are from NoVa too! It' s a very small world, after all :)

Til the cows come home, xo capemaychick

Birds

Good morning! It's 7:44 am right now, thanks to some REALLY loud birds. I woke up and am having trouble falling back asleep. So I was thinking back to when i was younger and in CM. I would always be up before my parents. They usually didn't wake up for at least an hour or so after I was up. I would always sit on the front porch swing and read. Now that I'm older & a teenager - I usually never get enough sleep, except in the summer. It is an odd day if I get up befor emy parents who usually wake up around 9 am. I Like getting up between 10-10:30 am.

Here Kitty, kitty

The Time: 11:34 am
The Setting: My room in CM
The problem: I'm waking up too late
The cause: Parents were out "adopting" a cat.

How it began: Today was one of the more interesting days in CM. I woke up and it was 11:34 am. I absolutely hate waking up after 11. So I was not thrilled that I had just woken up. I headed downstairs and my brother told me that my parents were on Page Street adopting a cat.

Here's what you don't know: My family is involved with cat rescue, thus our five cats. But nonetheless, CM is known for it's prime bird watching spots. The feral (wild) cats that roam around the town "kill" the birds. Here's what I know: They don't. But long story short, there is a "law" that cats have to be kept inside. I don't see any police officers enforcing that rule!

What I'm trying to get to: There was this beautiful calico cat (bottom) on Page Street. My family was charmed by her, and so was another family. They were planning on taking her and this one other cat (forget his name) home to PA. While Cape May is a small town, we ran into one of our cat friends and he told us that she wasn't his cat, and she and her friend actually have owners.

The point: So knowing that these two cats have owners, the people who were planning on taking her might still ask the owners if they can take them. Who knows what'll happen. CM is special.

Tidbit of info: Cape May has lots of feral cats. We see them all the time. Like the one in the picture (top). We saw h[im][er] under Henry's restaurant. We met another lady here who helps take care of feral cats (one family in particular who lives on Perry street).

Bottom line: Cape May is a very cat friendly place. This is the second summer in a row where we have almost come home with a cat >^^<

Until later, xo capemaychick

A Place On Earth

I like weird things. Soap, is one of them. Infact, I think I could COLLECT it! I know, that would be pretty weird. But still, soap smells good and it makes you clean :) two of my favorite things. Soap comes in different scents, shapes, sizes, etc. I like soaps in the shape of shells and flowers and stuff.

There is a soap shop in Cape May called a place on earth (www.aplaceonearth.com). They hand make their soaps and they smell so good! My favorite is Cool Cape May (of course). Today I got body scrub there in a rasberry scent and it was also ahh-mazing.

Anyway, not much else happened tonight. Mini golf (the other one in CM -- much harder -- didn't go so well). Let's just say, I probably shouldn't play on that course any more. The high light of my night was tied between the custard from Rita's and seeing a police officer put a ticket in someone's car :) I'm mean. COMMENT & follow me!

xo capemaychick

Shopped til I dropped

So nothing much went on this morning. Today was a scorcher. My mom and I went into the town and to the pedestrian mall. We got tons of stuff, it was fun :) My fave thing is this body scrub from 'A Place on Earth'. It smells like fresh rasberries and it's so delicious. I can't wait to use it. Not sure what the plans for tonight are.

Miss y'all! Check out my beach pic! So pretty!

Skee ball

So later today, we went to the beach. Saw dolphins as soon as we got on! I remember one time I was really sad, because it was the last day at the beach before we left, and I turned around to take one last glance - and that's when I saw a dolphin jump ALL the way out of the water!

The water was cold at first, but Shaggy and I decided to go in. It took some getting used to, but we did it! The water was warm after you got used to it. Though the water was way to rough to swim in. So we didn't go in very far, we just "waded", if you will.

I left my mom and Shaggy on the beach to go get a funnel cake. It was so expensive, $4! And it wasn't very good like last year. I think I'll get them at the Oasis instead of this place.

I'm really annoyed -- After my shower (outdoors, I LOVE outdoor beach showers!), I blow-dryed my hair. That's a pretty rare thing for me to do at the beach because it's usually too humid and my hair curls. But it was cool and dark outside, so I did it anyway and it was all nice and straight. Then we went to the boardwalk to play in the arcade. It was SO windy on the beach and my hair got all toussled and curly! FROM THE WIND! It wasn't even that humid!

Anyways...I am a master at skee-ball. My family and cousins always play at the beach. I know the highest I've probably ever rolled is 290, maybe 320? But the highest I got tonight was like 220. I wish skee-ball was a sport you could play on a league. Maybe I should join a bowling league. I already have my own ball :) Yes, I got it for my Bat Mitzvah which I had at the bowling alley. That reminds me, I should go bowling. There aren't any alleys in CM to do that, OMG WHERE DO THEY GO BOWLING? I think I need to investigate that.

Tomorrow it's supposed to rain :( bleh. Rain on vacation sucks. Leave comments :)

Jersey Girl <3

Not much new to report, just enjoying beautiful days at the beach. Had brunch with relatives this morning. Basically spent a good portion of the day with them.

Now it's 3 pm and we're getting ready to head to the beach. Plans tonight will either include a ghost tour, or a trip to the mall.

Yesterday & today

7/13 - This morning we went to George's for breakfast. I had waffle nutella and scrapple, yum! Then we went to some clothing stores. At a store called Accents I got a pink leather peace bracelet (which I LOVE), dice earrings, peace earrings and a shipwheel necklace. I went to the mall with my fam, and didn't get anything good. Came home and had a letter from Lindsay and Allie! We saw our neighbor from across the street and went over to talk to her. She's so nice. She has the cutest little yorkies - Ritzi and Angel. We spent time petting them and talking to her. We also saw her cat Gin (whose brother is Tonic :) through the glass door. I came home and wrote letters on the porch while it POURED. Had dinner from the Lobster house. Soo good. We went mini golfing and I WON!!!!!! Mike came in 2nd and mom 3rd. I got another peace bracelet and a peace bag from stores by mini golf. As you can tell I'm pretty into the peace sign stuff. We had a Gelati from Rita's - which is water ice with custard. I had lemonade water ice and vanilla custard.

7/14 - This morning we drove into Wildwood. First we went to an embroidary place (owned by a friend) to pick up some clothes we had done. Then we went to this Doo Wop museum, but it was closed until 1. So we went to the Wildwood boardwalk. We went into a few shops. I hate shopping in Wildwood because the people who work there follow you around the store and try to get you to buy stuff, and I think they also watch for people who are stealing. We went back to the doo wop place and looked around. It has a lot of neon signs from hotels that were torn down. Mike and I split a chocolate milkshake from there. Then we went to a place called the Ravioli house to get ravioli to bring home for dinner. Their ravioli is HUGE. Then when we got home, I went to the post office, mailed some stuff and got stamps. Then Mom and I headed down to the beach. It was nice and breezy. The water was freezing - so no swimming for us. Dad and M came later. Came home and that was basically it for today! can't believe how fast this vacay is going!

Sunday, July 12, 2009

First official day :)

I'm very pleased to inform you that I am sitting on my front porch, writing this. I love, love, LOVE the front porch!

Today was really hot. It was very sunny, and there was like NOO shade. I walked to the mall and came back with a necklace and 3 postcards. I came home practically dripping sweat. I cooled down in my room for about 2 hours before Shaggy and I headed over to the boardwalk. We had our first funnel cake, yummy!

We went to the boardwalk shops and I got a little cat figurine. We also played a few rounds of skee ball in the arcade.

I went back with my family and I got a box and another little cat figurine. I also got a black dress at a little beach clothing shop.

I'm really getting bitten by mosquitoes right now. Yuck. Well, it's time to go have rock candy. more updates tomorrow! We are planning on going to the actual beach tomorrow! Can't wait.

In Cape May :)

I'm at the beach and it's salty and GRRREAT!

So we planned to leave at 10 am...got out at 10:57.
30 minutes into the trip (11:30) in Maryland, Dad realized he forgot his wallet so we had to go back. Good bye to any chance of making the 4:15 pm ferry!

We went back to the house and left at 12:12 pm! It was good to see the cats one last time. miss them soo much!

After 2 pit stops, lunch at Holly's and a trip to the antique shop in Denton...we got to Lewes, DE. We shopped around a little bit and bought 2 post cards and 2 little bumper stickers for my scrap book.

We made the 6:15 pm ferry! We went into the ferry terminal to use the restrooms and shop around. I got 3 flat pennies (which I collect), a ferry boat charm, and an adorable Cape May Lewes Ferry tote bag. Mom also bought the charm, and dad got a hat and tee shirt...both orange (his color of the year).

Got to the house, it was pretty much the same. I don't think it was as clean as last year. Brought most of the stuff inside and then we headed to Henry's for dinner. The OPEN sign was changed to NOPE. So we were very dissapointed...we were going to eat at McGlades, but we went to Louie's Pizza. We had tomato/basil pizza, cheese steaks and onion rings. We walked back to the boardwalk and got Fudge from Fudge Kitchen.

Went home and unpacked everything. Showered, connected to the internet and now watching tv and thinking about getting some shut eye.

Tomorrow brings promise with a trip to the mall for shopping! XO capemaychick

IT'S HERE! I'm going to Cape May today!

I can't believe it, all that waiting is finally over with! We're going to leave for Cape May really, really soon! Oh boy!

I have to go get ready! Except an update when I'm there.

Friday, July 10, 2009

Less than 1 day...12 hours!

I will be en route to CM in officially 12 (well, actually less!) hours!

Can't wait. All packed! except my laptop.

OH MAN OH MAN OH MAN!

2 days

So there are only 2 days left until my departure to Cape May! I'm absolutely DYING to be on the way. I have such a vivid imagination, I can close my eyes and I'm there. I'll probably have to pinch myself, otherwise it won't seem real! I know that these 2 weeks will blow by before I know it, but I can't wait to get the hell outta here!

Monday, July 6, 2009

I'm up too late (2:40 am), 4 days!

Hopefully I'll get some sleep one of these days. I made the mistake of thinking about going to the beach before I went to sleep. Big mistake, because now I'm all excited and it's the only thing I can think about and I just can't fall asleep.

What is it about the beach that makes me an insomniac? It's not like at home I could go outside and take a walk around the block. Although I don't think I'd be allowed to do that at the beach...we'll see. But anyway...

Friday night before we leave the plan is to pack the car and the roof rack. That way we'll be able to leave at 10 am (which TECHNICALLY means 11 am). We have to plan all our stops so we can make the 4:15 ferry. Because if we miss it then we'll have to take the 6:15 ferry and that doesn't fly with me. The ferry ride is 70 (appx) minutes long. So the earlier we take it, the earlier we get there, the earlier we eat dinner and maybe go into a boardwalk shop. Which also means the earlier we'll go to bed, the earlier we can get up and do stuff!

Oh man...I'm just DYING for the beach. I'm actually a little tired right now, but nothing really feels like it'll make me sleepy. And I don't want to get up late this morning because that screws my whole day. So even if I get 5/6 hours of sleep, I'll still get up in the AM, no matter how hard it is.

I basically finished packing -- except I have to take everything out of my suitcase to put in all the other stuff that needs to go and then check all my things off my list.

I also printed a calendar that I'm going to write down TV shows on, cause I can't keep track of all of that in my head. Well I think I'm going to go read.

More in a day or so :)
BEACH TIME.
I am so excited because I set up my blog on my phone and can update you on my way to the beach this Saturday! 5 days! xo capemaychick

Less than a week! 5 days

Hello :)

5DAYS!

I could drop dead and die. I mean, it's so close I can practically envision myself in Cape May. I just cannot wait. It's so not fair how long I have to wait. So close so close so close!

AHHHHH! These 5 days better go faster!

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

11 days!

I cannot believe there are only 11 days left until I go to Cape May! It's hard to believe that I've been counting down since there were 200+ days! It's a surreal feeling.

I've already started packing my books and things! It's a little on the early side, but I'm so busy up until I go that it makes it hard to pack! Of course, there is nothing like the thrill of packing the day before we go. It's so hard to fall asleep that night.

More soon.

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

31 days

Just a quick update. My CM vacation is so soon! I really thought that it would take like FOREVER to get here. Though time is progressing. School is practically over, and that plays a big role in how fast it takes for CM to come.

40 days...step by step

Man does time fly or what? It's been 23 days since I have started my blog. Of course, I don't think anyone is reading it, but hey...they will be soon enough!

I plan to update my blog every day while I'm at the beach, before I go to bed.

Today I'm actually going to write a letter to my next door neighbor at the beach. I've known her for a very long time, probably 5+ years. She used to have this sweet collie (I think?) named Maggie. My neighbor would let my pen pal Mary and I walk Maggie. Maggie passed on a few years back and now she has a new doggie named Isabelle. I remember Isabelle when she was a puppy, she could fit into my arms. Now she's like 15o lbs or something! I think this year she's either two or three years old. My other neighbor across the street has two yorkie poos and two cats who are all very sweet. Her next door neighbors, our friends as well, have five cats like me. And my neighbor around the corner has a cat named Bogart who is huge and pretty and loveable. My family is also friends with a man a few blocks away who has many, MANY cats. Probably around 20, (maybe less, maybe more).

I wish I could bring my cats on vacation! I just found out some exciting news today. After we are in CM, we are coming home for 1 day, and then leaving to go to North Carolina. Busy!

43 days -- getting closer by the minute!

I really am just DYING for the beach!

I was so excited yesterday when I got my Cape May newspaper. There is a new bakery shop opening near my beach house -- about 10-20 minutes away (walking, 3 minutes driving -- but who drives?). It looks really cute. I can't wait.

That's pretty much it, short post I know. You can expect more this weekend!

48 days -- getting closer

So there is 48 days left til CMNJ. Getting close! Today I was at my best friend's house and we were talking about CM. Last summer she went there, but it was after me. We're hoping this year that she'll maybe meet me there. That would be so much fun! We're really close, pretty much exactly alike :) Love ya Samurai!

There is this restaurant in CM called Louie's. They sell Pizza and it is really good. They have a wall with license plates on it. They're trying to get every state. We have our old license plate up there which is really cool. Samurai saw it there and which is pretty cool.

I can't believe how close it's getting to CM time. I just cannot wait.

52 days & still counting

Hello Again. Goodness, I just cannot wait for this trip. It really just gets me through the year, knowing that we're going there. I think that I am lucky to have found a place that makes me feel like that. I know that sounds weird, but Cape May is special.

I don't really have much to say for this post. It's earlier than usual, so I'm still groggy. Of course, when I go to the beach I get up pretty early. Because I feel that if you sleep late, you waste a day! So I like to get up around 10 am. At home I get up anywhere from 9:30-11:45. Today was a 10 am day. Yesterday was more like a 11:30 day.

The things I want to do this summer in CM

Hello Again.

So yesterday evening I was really, really bored. Then I was like, "Hey! Let's check the Cape May website." So I was on it. It was 5 degrees cooler there than it is here. SO NOT FAIR! So then I found a link to things that you can do in CM.

BRAIN BLAST! [Sorry for the Jimmy Neutron reference :(]. I decided to make a list of things that I want to do this summer. So I headed up a new microsoft word as things I want to do this summer in CM. I even found a little July calendar to put underneath the title. And so the list began. While this is still a work in progress...because I keep thinking of new things to put...it's a relatively good list!

Things I want to Do
Haunted Cape May Tour (Hotel Macomber)
See Harry Potter 6 (July 17 – Stone Harbor 5)
Visit Lucy the Elephant (B-day Bash July 18-19)
Get a Pina Colada Smoothie from Avalon Bagels
Ride my bike to Avalon Bagels for breakfast
Play Hard & Easy Mini Golf
Skeeball at the Arcade
Get an application to work at Making Waves
Make a Cape May Scavenger hunt for everyone
Get a hermit crab
Make cookies for the neighbors
Get a tan
Read a book in the lifeguard chair
Wake up early & watch the sun rise on the boardwalk
Visit Pearl Street
Visit Denise, Betty and Barbara
Go on a walk on the beach for shells/beach glass

Okay. Now to explain my list.

#1: Cape May does a haunted ghost tour at a hotel nearby our house. It's about a 90 minute tour and you walk a mile. What could be more fun that excercising while getting a tour of your favorite town and possibly learning new things and meeting ghosts! And did I mention it's in the dark? Even better :)

#2: I love Harry Potter and want to see the movie when it comes out. Of course I'll be at the beach. So I spent about 10 minutes googling a movie theatre near CM and there is one in the next town over (stone harbor) and it's about 30 minutes away. Thank you google maps -- yes I googled my CM address to the movie theatre!

#3: Lucy the Elephant is a really cool landmark. it's a big elephant building that you go in! check it out at www.lucytheelephant.org !

#4: There is this great bagel store around the block from our house. It's called avalon bagels. I love getting things from there. Especially a refreshing pina colada smoothie on a 90 degree day!

#5: See above. I love bringing back the bagel to eat on the porch.

#6: Vacation in CM would NOT be complete without playing mini golf. Personally I enjoy the easy (it's not easy, but easier than the other one) mini golf. It has all these fun things there. Such good memories. Tiger woods! And I would like to play at least 1 game at the hard one.

#7: My favorite game to play in the arcade on the boardwalk is Skeeball. The arcade is great, even though it has crappy prizes. Usually I spend time winning lots of tickets and then giving them to my brother -- unless there is a relatively good prize. Like last summer there was these little cat statues and my dad and I were like...we need this. So I played a lot to win them. They're on my bookshelf now.

#8: I love this cute little jewelry/clothing beachy store called Making Waves. I figure that maybe next summer, who knows if it'll actually happen though, I can get a job at the beach and stay with one of our neighbors (we know them all -- you'll learn more in another blog if I remember). So why the heck not get an application!

#9: So random. But doesn't a scavenger hunt sound really fun to do on a boring day? Who am I kidding, CM is never boring. But still.

#10: Get a hermit crab. Now this can go 2 ways. buying the crab w/permission. or somehow buying the crab without parental permission. See we usually get crabs, but it's hard to take care of them and sometimes they die really easily. But I really want one because I love having it! And since my last one died this winter my parents were like, "NO MORE HERMIT CRABS!" So we'll have to see on that one.

#11: This started as a tradition with my next door neighbor in CM. We usually made cookies from cookie dough and then gave them to neighbors. One time we made cookies after they had used the pan to make fish. BIG MISTAKE! And we have cookies that tasted like fish. YUCKY! One time we made chocolate chip eggs. Pretty nasty. I also always used to have sasuage with powdered sugar. Kids eat strange things.

#12: Get a tan is probably the most self explanitory thing on the list. Maybe I should've said: Get a tan without getting burned!

#13: I love, love, love reading in the lifeguard chair. There is just something about doing that, that relaxes me very well.

#14: I get up so early during the school year (6:30 am) and I think it would be fun to get up around that early and watch the sun rise and go on like a morning walk through the town to see what it's like in the early morning hours.

#15: Pearl Street is where our friend with many (appx. 20) cats lives. We always go, but I felt that I needed to put it on the list.

#16: Those people are our neighbors and I keep in contact with them all year so I love visiting with them.

#17: A trip to the beach wouldn't be complete if you didn't bring home at least a pound of shells (sand not included hehe).

Well that's all for this post.

62 days! (unless you're being technical...cause it's the end of today).

Only 63 days away

Hello all! So this is my beach blog and it's only going to be about the beach. It's more like an experiment though! My friends know how obsessed I am with Cape May, New Jersey, and I figure what better way of letting them know all about it then posting it in a blog!

I've been going to CM even before I was born! My mom went while she was pregnant with me. And I go ever summer for at least two weeks. It is my annual vacation and I absolutely love it! When I was younger my parents would sometimes take me more than once a year. Now I only get to be in CM for 14 days a year. Bummer! So the rest of my time is devoted to counting the days down, annoying everyone I know by telling them every detail, or just making collages of my pictures from there.

Cape May is great for a lot of reasons. Whether it's the small town atmostphere or the cute little shops you can find all around town. My favorite shop is Whale's Tale, which is in the Washington Street Mall. I can visualize it perfectly right now. What I'd give to be there! They sell shells, jewelry, Cape May books, postcards, all sorts of kids toys including: books, dolls, stuffed animals, gadgets, etc. There is also a Xmas section in the back.

I think what I love/hate most about Cape May is that we can go there and use make a tank of gas last the whole two weeks! Well...not totally true because we actually leave town to go 1-2 towns over to visit relatives or play on a cool boardwalk in Wildwood. But in CM, everything and when I say everything I really mean everything, is walking distance! I love that everything is walking distance because for the 2 weeks I'm there, we do so much excercise and it's not even a drag! I don't like walking in the hot weather though. That is probably the only downer!

For the last 10 years we have rented a house for the two weeks we are there. For about 8 years we were in the same house, unbelieveably! But then the people decided not to rent their house, so we took to renting the house next door! So the last 2 years we have rented another house. As much as I loved the first house we rented...I love the second house much, much more! Mostly because it has air conditioning! Each house has it's own special charm.

Our current house is spectacular. It has beautiful green awnings and classic beach shingling. There are about 10 steps up to the front of the house. Once you get up the steps you have 2 options: go inside or sit on the lovely porch. If you continue into the house and make an immediate left there is a nice wooden staircase going upstairs. Once you get up all the stairs (don't ever wear slippers and goof off while going down the stairs...nearly broke my leg doing that) there are 6 doors. 4 are our bedrooms, 2 are our bathrooms. The first room on the right is my parents. It has a queen(?) bed and a little pull out couch (yuck...like I'd sleep in that). The mostly have a shady room, but they hear all the annoying people out front. The next room is the "guest room" for us because we usually don't use it unless we have guests! It has one twin bed and one full bed. It's a fairly nice room and it only gets a little sun. Next there are the two bathrooms. Since there are four family members we divide into two to use the potty! My brother and I share a bathroom (like we do at home). It's a nice bathroom that has a window above the shower. The next bathroom over is for my parents. It has a funky shower...kinda small though. Next is my bedroom! It has a queen size bed (bigger than my bed at home and I LOVE it!). It has a vanity/desk, and the first day I always fill it. It has 2 nightstands but I only use one for my iHome. there is one big dresser and I usually fill it all the way! The best feature of the dresser is the TV ON TOP OF IT!!! Yes, there have been some 2 am tv watchings...haha. And of course there is a closet that is only big enough for all my purses! JK - the closet is pretty big. Except we put all the yucky sheets/quilts/pillows from the bed in the closet and I use my own sheets. Last is my brother's room. It has a queen bed and a dresser. it's small but he likes it so there aren't any arguments there!

Well, for my 1st post I don't think that was so bad! I guess next time we talk it can be about cats & best restaurants/what to order!

Tchao!
