Back to School Blues

So I was thinking today, on September 20 (today is the 14th), will me 11 months since my Grandfather Lester Shubin died. I have come to the understanding that the pain wears away after a while, and it has. For months, all I could think about was Grandpa. Especially if I was feeling down. Not a day went by that I didn't. I still think about him almost every day, but small things like, I wish I could've shown this or that to him.

Like today in sociology when we were talking about when people are socially margained for their looks or appearance. My teacher's example was someone being born without a limb. I thought of Grandpa and his two amputated legs. I was eventually able to adjust. I remember staring at people like that in public, feeling so bad for them and not being able to look away. And with grandpa, it didn't matter because I loved him, legs or no legs. The first time you see it, it's a shock and people are surprised to see or hear about it. I just got used to it, it was so hard to cope with when I first learned about his amputations. It was middle school, so I was around 13-14 years old. At first he just had a few toes amputated, then it was a leg. And then the other. I don't remember what it was like seeing it for the first time. I just know that I did get used to it, as hard as it was to imagine going through life without my legs. I used to be really closed about his amputations, but now I feel more open about them. It's life, it happened, he was able to cope so I should be able to too. I will always think of him when I see other amputees. My staring at them, is not because they have something missing, but because it reminds me of Grandpa.

Yes, these things do make me sad, but I'm glad I got the reminder that he'll always live on inside of me.

His 85th birthday would've been September 27th. And November 20, 2010 will mark the year anniversary of his death. I think the end of the year from Sept to Dec will always be sad. September for his birthday, November for his death, veterans day, and Thanksgiving. And then December for Hanukkah and my brother and I's birthdays.

I haven't been back to the cemetary he is burried in, since his funeral. I think his funeral was on November 30th. Honestly, the end of that month was such a blurr. I barely remember anything, other than the comfort my family recieved. Many sympathy cards, articles from websites & newspapers remind me of him daily. All of those are carefully stored away in a colorful box of mine. Time to time I will take a moment to look at them, and...well, bask in my misery. I can't be happy all the time, can I?

I do really want to go back to visit his grave. I know it will evoke emotion for my mom and I. I don't know about my dad, brother and grandma. I do expect myself to cry and probably everyone else. I mean, tears are buliding up in my eyes as I am writing this. It will be coming to terms with what my brain has been denying for a year. My grandpa is gone and I will never see him again. I just can't get my head around that. I remember the morning after the night he died. I slept in my parents room because my grandma slept in my bed. I tossed and turned all night, I probably had around 3 hours of sleep. I wasn't able to read or anything. I finally decided around 6:30am to be constructive and watch a movie on my iPod. After that, I heard my grandma up and washing. So I went downstairs and helped make us breakfast. And for some GODFORSAKEN REASON I was playing farmville. Which seems totally ridiculous and disrespectful to my dead grandfather. But I was addicted, and now I'm totally free of that monsterous game.

I do plan on writing a word doc of everything that happened the day of and following his death, for my personal records. Maybe my blog publishing or on Teen Ink. But definetly for my own satisfaction. Sigh...

I think I will call my grandma.

Travel to home

I am finally home. It's sad really. I mean, when I'm in Cape May it takes a few days to adjust to being there, but I came home and was fine right away.

Saturday 7/24
Woke up this morning around 9am. Had to get out of the house by 10, so it was chaotic getting dressed and packing up the last few things. And it was HAWT outside. We were out of the house by a quarter of 10 and we went to the rental place to drop the keys off. After doing that, we drove back to the street to give cookies to our neighbors. I noticed the mail lady outside and saw that she had just put a letter in our mailbox. It was from Betty and it came in the nick of time!

We set off to eat brunch at George's. I had banana french toast again, it was good. After George's we went into one of the stores next to them and I got this really cool, blue, sparkly watch. We got in the car and drove back to our street because I had some more cookies to deliver. We gave them to our other neighbor, Barbara and went inside her house for a few minutes to talk and pet her kitty. After leaving her house we set off to catch our 1pm ferry.

We got there around 12:30pm. We went inside to use the bathrooms when the announcement came that we needed to return to our cars. So I didn't have enough time to go to the bathroom, bahaha. We loaded the ferry and headed up. We sat inside the whole ride. After relieving myself :) (haha, you really needed to know that) I bought a postcard to write back to Betty on. The ride was pretty smooth. A little rocky. I read my book most of the way. We got to Delaware around 2:30pm. After getting off and driving for about a half and hour, we ended up getting lost.

After getting back onto track, we stopped once to go to the bathroom and we stopped twice at two different antique stores. I got a really cute flower pEn and a seagull pIn. I slept most of the way to the restaurant, Holly's. I had the fried chicken special and a vanilla milkshake. Yum, nothing better than homemade fried chicken and homemade milkshake! I want some more just thinkin' about it.

After leaving I fell asleep basically until we got home. We came inside about 9:30 pm and saw our kitties. Goodness we missed them so much! After seeing them, putting the leftovers into the fridge we set up to take off the roof rack. After doing that, dad moved the car into the garage where we proceeded to unpack the rest of the car. I was in showered and in my own bed by 11:30pm - I was shocked. I wouldn't have been in bed that early if I was still in Cape May! I didn't fall asleep until 1 am, but that was STILL earlier than CM.

So now it is a little after noon on Sunday the 25th. I brought my suitcase in this morning to get soem clothes to wear. We have so many things to unpack and find places for. Of course, I can't really unpack anything since hopefully soon we'll start renovating my room. We're going out to brunch at the bagel place and to the antique show. For dinner we're going to the mall at Todai.

Thanks to everyone for following my blog! Since I'm done with vacation, I still have a few more posts I'd like to talk about Cape May. I want to discuss the house we might buy as well. And maybe I'll photograph some of the jewelry I bought and put pictures up here for any interested parties!

Home, tomorrow? It's uncanny.

I can't believe how fast these two weeks have flown by. I am sitting in my room, bags mostly packed and a few random pits scattered on my desk. I donwannagohome.

This morning I woke up at 11:50 am, THANK YOU MOM! Ugh. Not a good start to the day! I came downstairs, and had lunch. My leftover burrito, some chips and easy mac. I came upstairs to start packing. I was worried not all my things were going to fit in my suit case. I have about two bags of fragile and meltable stuff that I didn't want to put in my suitcase.

I watched True Beauty the whole time I was packing. Almost done with the second season. By the time I was finished packing it was about 2pm. I came downstairs and read for a little. I started my new book: Kristin Chenoweth's biography. I had listened to a little of the audio tape so I recognized some of the book. Around3:15pm my cousin Jenn came and we talked to her for about 20 minutes before she left.

Then we headed to the mall around 4pm. On the way, we ran into our friend Harry who has a ton of cats. We met a few of his cats: Herbert and Woody, and saw a few we had already met, Miss Pearl, Lotta and Goldie. We talked to him for about an hour before heading to the mall. There, we got some soap store things and the last few bouts of presents. We also got Mike these explodey things. We headed home around 6.

We had a smoothie snack (so yummy) and then I watched the finale of True Beauty. We left to go have dinner at Henry's. It was soo busy. I had the crabcake sandwich. We saw the beach kitties - fed them some fried fish :)

After dinner we walked to our friend Tina's Spirit Catcher Photography shop. There we got I think 5 picturs as well as getting to pet an adorable 12 week old kitten! We then walked to the arcade, I had mint chocolate chip ice cream while Michael and mom played the last mini golf game. Now I am home and it's already after 11pm. I need to shower and clean the bathroom, as well as pack my shells, odds & ends plus my entire bathroom kit. Ugh.

Tomorrow we will get up in time to be out of the house by 10am. We'll have brunch at George's and pick up the last picture we have on hold at Tina's (she was framing it overnight). Then we'll head to the 1pm ferry. We'll probably look around in the terminal - too hot to stay in the car, it's supposed to be 105 F! I can't believe vacation's over. I looked forward to it for so long, and it was so sweet but short. Hopefully we'll be up sooner than next summer to look at the house or sign papers for it! After I'm home I'll post a blog explaining those deets :)

To my last night here!

Last Thursday!

Today I woke up around 11 even though my alarm had been going off. My mom told me I better hurry up so we would have enough time to get to George's for breakfast before they stopped serving it. We got up, took a while but finally got out of the house and drove there. We parked around the corner and walked there. I had the banana french toast again - too good for words.

After going to George's, we came home and dropped my brother & the leftovers off. Then we headed out to go to a few stores - no one bought anything (I think). And then we went into CVS where we got more water bottles, toilet paper and I printed pictures so I would be able to work on my scrapbook.
We came home and I read, then watched True Beauty on Hulu while scrapbooking. I did about 5 or 6 pages worth! Then I finished the episode of TB I was watching and head down to meet my mom and brother at the beach. It was a long, hot walk & I was sticky from my sun tan lotion. I got there and we sat relatively close to the water. So a huge wave came and the water rushed towards us and my butt got really wet and I wasn't happy. Yes I know, being wet is part of being at the beach. But it got my clothes wet over my bathing suit.

Then my brother left the beach and it was just my mom and I. We set off for a shell walk. We walked a long way down the beach. Some trek! Death march, dare I say? But the shells we found made up for it. I found some swirly mooney shells, some cool pieces of conches and about 9 pieces of beach glass, 1 white, 4 green, 1 aqua & 4 brown.

We came home, showered and had the BEST dinner from Big Wave Burrito which opened recently. I would say their burrito was better than Chilpotle. So delicious - glad I have lunch leftovers (if it doesn't become my midnight snack - which it is 12:15am...hmm). And then mom, dad and I left for the mall.

There I got this gorgeous beach glass with a pearl necklace. That was my last big purchase. My parents let me get a ring, but not any ring. I found the stone for it on the beach (Cape May diamond - rocks that when polished are like diamonds) and ordered the ring. Anyways. We went into a few shops for presents and such. Came home and had fudge on the front porch and now thinking about going to bed. We have to live up our last day tomorrow!

Kind of a boring & hot day

Today I woke up at 10:30 am. I went downstairs and had mini spooners for breakfast along with a bisquit. Yum. I came back upstairs and watched the Teen Mom I had missed from the other day. After that I just kind of chilled and worked on my scrapbook. My stomach kind of just hurt, I think I'm really overtired from just being so much more active here than I am at home. I decided that I'm really going to try to keep up with my walking at home, since I walked so much here. Of course here I was walking to somewhere good!

Around 2 we set off to Wildwood to pick up Michael's sweatshirt from the embroidery place. There I got a pair of really cute Vera Bradley flip flops on sale for $16.50! Such a good deal. Almost 50% off. We went to the Ravioli house to pick up some ravioli to make for dinner. We came home and I sat on the porch with my parents. We were discussing this houes that we might offer on. I really hope that we can buy it! That's another post story...it's really long.

I delivered cookies to our next door neighbors with my mom and dad, and then to my neighbor Denise from across the street. I sat with her and talked for a while. Then I came home and was really influenced to write my Cape May vacation article, after talking to Denise. If I haven't mentioned this before, I may be writing an article for the CM newspaper: The Cape May Star and Wave! Nothing is definite now, but I met with the managing editor and hopefully I'll be an officially published author!

After watching some True Beauty on Hulu (another trash reality show I love), we had our ravioli dinner. It was really good. Then we left to go to the mall. I got a few postcards. I came home, had a huge glass of water & dessert. Now I'm watching some TV and going to bed. I can't believe my vacation is almost over!

Good Bye Malia!

Today was Malia's last day. We got up around 10:30 am and had breakfast. Mini Spooners, aka mini frosted wheats. We came back upstairs to watch some more of 16 & pregnant - can't get enough of hicky pregnant teenagers! I uploaded pictures onto Facebook.

We came back down for lunch and I had an egg salad sandwich that I made. It was really good. We set off to bake 2 WHOLE batches of cookies. There was so much (delicious) cookie dough that we used, there was even leftovers. There are so many cookies downstairs on the dining room table. Malia's mom came around 3 as the last batch of cookies were baking (they went on their next roadtrip with some). We talked to Malia's mom on the front porch for probably 20 minutes before they left.

After Malia left, I read my book and finished it. The Au Pairs by Melissa de la Cruz. It was very good! I can't wait to read the next ones. Unfortunately they didn't have them in the bookstore here in CM. So I really was in the urge to shop, so I set off for the mall.

At Whiskers, I got a present for my friend Shelly, and a little glass duck for me. Next I went to A Place on Earth Soap shop and got each my mom and I some soap scrub, a bar of soap for myself and a present for my friend Lindsay. Next I went into the Great White Shark and got a sweatshirt that says Cape May. It has no hood on it and has the hollister bird (but it's facing the other way so they don't get sued). Next I went into the Love the Cook store and bought these cute little quarter holders there for me, my mom, brother and cousin Jenn.

After those expeditions I went into this other soap store, Bath Time, and got this really cool shell mirror for my room. And I also got this Wild Pear scented shave gel that they make there. And then I went into Whale's Tale and bought these freshwater pearl earrings that were champagne pink. They were gorgeous, made in Cape May and only $16 dollars! A pure bargain! And lastly I went into Across the Way to finish Lindsay's gift. I still have a few more friends to get gifts for, and I'm sure I have more shopping to do.

When I got home I was completely drenched in sweat. I hopped into the shower and used my new shaving gel. After showering I went downstairs and started reading my new book, The Oracle of Dating. It's pretty good so far. After that I walked to Henry's (a restaurant) with my family. We saw so many cats that live in the sand underneath the restaurant! I had a fried fish sandwich with mashed potatoes (to die for) and some salad. I even gave some of the sandwich to my kitty friends.

Next we headed into the arcade for some MAJOR skee ball and slot game playing. It was fun. I think my highest score was 290 or 300. I gave all my tickets and coins to my brother, Mike. Such a good older sister! After the arcade we got ice cream custard at Rita's. Then we came home and Jenn chilled with my family on the porch. She gave me a belated sweet sixteen gift - a generous giftcard to Amazon (already spent some on 3 books!) and an awesome Vera Bradley Cupcake pink wallet! I was looking for a cute wallet! SO exciting!

That's all for tonight. Probably beach tomorrow if it's not raining!

Photo booths & lightning

Ugh, it was so hard to get up this morning. I didn't get up until about 11:30 am even though my alarm went off at 9:55am! After getting up, my mom told me to check the mailbox. I had letters from Shelly, Kelsey and my grandma Genie! It was so exciting. Malia and I ate breakfast - yummy bagel sandwiches and then went back upstairs.

We watched 16 & pregnant on my laptop while I wrote back to all my friends. Then we left for the post office mailboxes. On the way we saw a lot of cats! I think 5. I wrote back to everyone who wrote me, as well as my cousins Karen & Rick. We got home and debated what to do next. My parents came home from this barn flea market they went to and were drenched in sweat. Ew. So we decided that since it wasn't that hot, we would head to the beach. It was already 4 pm by then.

We were on the beach for about 3 hours until 7:10pm that we decided to come home. The sand and surf was so nice. See picture! We left, came home and cleaned ourselves up. We ate sandwiches from Zoe's Beachfront Eatery. Then we left to go shopping. On the boardwalk we took pictures in the cool photobooths. I'll have to scan them into the computer when I'm home. Then Malia got a cool paint splattered Cape May sweatshirt. We walked to the mall and I got the peace in different languages boxers that I wanted to get.

The sky was like, lighting up from lightning. Then it started thundering. After we came home, we had some fudge, looked at the shells my mom and I had found and then watched some Malcolm in the Middle. Now I'm going to wash up and get into bed. I'm reading a really good book; Au Pairs by Melissa de la Cruz. Tomorow is Maleelee's last day :( bumms haha.

Typical lazy Sunday

Today we woke up late again. I had oatmeal for breakfast again. I made it too sugary. We went out on the porch to see how hot it was. It was very hot, haha. We discussed when we wanted to go to the beach because 11am-3pm is the hottest part of the day.

Since it was only 2 and we wanted to wait to go to the beach, we decided to finish baking the cookies. They actually came out perfectly. We went upstairs and were on the computer and watched some Teen Mom on MTV. Then we got dressed to go to the beach. The beach was really hot, so we decided to go into the water. But it was breaking way too close to the shore, so I really didn't want to go in. So we just sat on our chairs and went into the water when we got hot.

We decided to head home around 6 pm. We wanted to get cool drinks from the surfshack. I got a lime slushee and Malia got a black and white milkshake. We came home to get dressed and cleaned up. I hate how wearing suntan lotion makes you all sweaty and stinky and STICKY. So after showering, Malia french braided my hair while we watched more Teen Mom on MTV.

We then left to go to shopping! At Tradewinds, I got a little evil eye pin and a cat dish. Then we went into a whole bunch of stores on the mall where Malia finally got her desired pair of sweat pants, and these really cool boxers that say peace in a whole bunch of different languages. I might get a pair. After that, we came home and had dinner at like 10 pm. Hotdogs and chips. It was pretty nice. After that we just chilled, watched TV and then came upstairs to get ready for bed. I didn't fall asleep til about 2 am, tomorrow we're going to bed early!

More beach fun tomorrow.

Cookies & Swimming

Today was another 'lax day. We got up around 11 (well Maleelee got up at 10, sheesh) and had hot dogs for BREAKFAST. Hey... you either have to eat lunch or breakfast, so we chose lunch. After that we kinda just hung out upstairs and read/watched tv/painted toes.

Around 3 we baked homemade cookies and they were delicious. We're going to make some more with our left over cookie dough tomorrow. After the cookies were made, we decided to head up to the beach!

It was really stinkin' hot on the beach. Yuck. So we decided to cool off by going in the water. It was rough, but really fun! We had a great time. We came home and showered. How I LOVE the outdoor shower.

We came back inside and chilled, blasted some Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana. We ate dinner at 9pm and then left to do mini golf. Apparently, Mike came in first, Malia second and me last. But I honestly don't trust Mike's math skills. Or lack thereof, :)

That was pretty much it. Came home and had our nightly dose of Malcolm ITMIddle. Bed now. More fun tomorrow. Can't believe the week is almost over!

Ocean City!

Today we got up around 11:20 am. So late, but we went to bed late. We went downstairs and had breakfast. One half a bagel with creamcheese (breakfast bagel) and one half with turkey and bologna (lunch bagel). We came back upstairs and I got dressed while watching tv on my iPod.

So then my dad and I left to go meet Christopher South, who is the managing editor on the Cape May Star and Wave Newspaper. We talked to him for a good hour. It was really interesting to see how he runs the paper. There were many things I see in common with my school newspaper. I think meeting him was a great experience, and I'm going to get to write a guest article for the paper! so that will be spectacular.

So after that I came home and Malia and I just hung out and watched Malcolm in the Middle and had some lunch. Then while I was painting my toes, my neighbor Barbara came over. She invited Malia and I to come over and visit with her and her cat, Bogart. He was so sweet, he sat in my lap! I'll take pictures of him the next time I am over.

After visiting with Barbara, we came home and got ready to leave for Ocean City. We left a little after 6pm and got to Ocean City a little before 7 pm. It was a nice drive. We met up with my cousins, Carol, Walt and Scott. My mom, dad and brother had dinner with them while Malia and I ventured off into the vast unknown that is the Ocean City Boardwalk. We ate at a place called Litterer's. I had pork roll and Malia had a cheeseburger. Not great, but satisfying. Then we went shopping! We went into a ton of stores.

We finally got to the one store that I really wanted to shop in, Terry Ivory. It's this great little jewelry store. Anyway, we spent at least an hour if not more time in there. I ended up getting this cute cord bracelet with three charms; an I <3 my cat, New Jersey and an anchor charm. Very cute. After that Malia and I had a funnel cake. It was the best funnel cake I have EVER had.

Then we went into a few stores. I got these really cute wishbone earrings for like, 2 dollars. Then we loaded up in the car to go home. On the way home, we decided to detour through Wildwood to look at the old neon signs. It was very cool. We even stopped on the front of the WW boardwalk to take pictures w/ the Wildwood sign and beach balls. We got home around 1, I showered and went to bed around two. Exhausting but fun day. Tomorrow we will bake homemade cookies and go to the beach! And get fudge and puttputt!

Maleelee is hurr

Finally got up around 11:30 am this morning. Had some oatmeal ad nachitos (Acme brand of doritos!). I checked my internet and then watched TV. Had some easy mac and got ready to leave. We left around 1 pm to go antiquing. Mom and dad got a cat statue and I got some cool Atlantic city dice. Then we went to another store but no one got anything. We drove by the Cape May Star and Wave Newspaper office - I have a meeting there tomorrow with one of the editors to discuss writing a story for their paper.

We got Malia from the ferry around 3:30 pm. We came home and Malia and I settled in. Then we headed to the beach. We got black and white milkshakes and then sat down on the beach. It was really hot. So we decided to go in the water a little bit, even though the lifeguards had left. We saw a ton of dolphins!

Then we came home, showered and ate a really good dinner of lobster macaroni, scallops, fish sticks, bread, etc. Then Malia and I headed to the mall to check out the shoppin'. I got coconut ice body scrub from a place on earth. IT was so good. I got some perfume at Bath Time. It's so cool, they make all the perfumes there and you get to pick a bottle, and then a perfume. I chose white tea, and I absolutely love it. It's small, light and very feminine. I got some anchor earrings. And then I finally got this gorgeous shell necklace with pretty blue beads and I had my eye on it for a long time. I couldn't stand waiting for it, so I bought it. We got some fudge, came home and watched Malcolm in the Middle. Didn't get to bed about 2 am. Tomorrow we're going to Ocean City!

July 14 - Wednesday

Woke up this morning feeling a little bit better cold wise. I made some oatmeal and burnt my hand really badly. So then after ICING it for like 20 minutes, I read my book and finished it. It was really good. Then I went to the post office with my mom and came back and had lunch. We took our annual step pictures with the Keenans. Then we left for the beach. We saw a lot of dolphins.

Then it began to rain and I had no desire to sit there while it poured, so after being on the beach for a grand total of about 15 minutes, I packed up and left. I was so tired when I got home, I read some of my magazines and watched tv. Totally crashed.

We ate cheeseteaks and curly fries on the front porch while it drizzled. I walked to Rita's to get vanilla custard - soo good but really rich. I couldn't finish it. Then I walked all the way to George's and stopped in shops along the way. I also walked to the mall and only got taffy. Bad shopping, I've gotten practically everything I wanted! I came home around 10 and hung out with Mary and Ally for a little bit while they packed, so I could say goodbye.

Can't wait to see Malia tomorrow for the first time in a year!

Good food & shopping!

Today was a good day. I woke up this morning with my sheets totally pulled off the corners of my bed, haha ew beach beds. I woke up and got dressed, and then my cousin Jenn picked me up. We went out to breakfast with the rest of our families. We went to George's Place - so yummy. I had banana french toast and scrapple. The taylor pork roll club (for those who don't know, pork roll is the best thing on earth), was taken off the menu. So sad!

After that, my mom, Jenn and I went shopping. I actually didn't find anything in the stores we looked in. We drove back home and everyone chilled on the front porch. I sat inside and finished watching last night's Secret Life of the American Teenager and Huge.

Then we went into Wildwood to pick up our clothes that we got embroidered by a friend. The shirts came out so cute. I got a house, a Sabrina cat, a Victoria cat and a Pearl cat. We came back home, relaxed for a little bit and then I went to the mall to go to Whisker's, a cute boutique I hadn't been to yet. There I got this really cute little leather cat keychain. And I shopped around the mall for a little bit and got these cute starfish earring studs, which I have as dangly earrings.

I then came home and updated my Facebook pictures. We ate really good dinner form the Ravoli house which is in Wildwood. Then I took Mike out to the arcade for a couple games of skee ball. I went into the Morrow's nut house and got a few postcards and some stationary. Then I got a black and white milk shake from the Surfside Delite, as it's apparently called. Hahaha. Then I darted home to watch Pretty Little Liars, which I am watching now. It's so funny.

Tomorrow will consist of spending some time with Mary because she is leaving early on Thursday morning.

Day 3 - Shopping on a rainy day

I was so tired this morning. It was so hard to get up. I watched tv in bed before I got up. My throat is still really bothering me and my nose is very runny. I can't tell if it's allergies or a beach cold. Of course I would get a cold at the beach.

We left around noon for the mall with my mom and dad and brother. At Making Waves I got this really cool pendant that has a pink background with shells in it, and matching earrings with a blue background. At a store called Across the Way I got a really cute sea otter purse, and a few pins. We stopped into Spirit Photography - we're friendly with the owner because of cats :) We talked to her husband for a little bit.

We left after 2 hours because it had started raining. We had delicious sandwiches - beach sandwiches are so much better than at home. I watched the new Hannah Montana. Yes am very cool.

After just hanging out for a while, I went to the beach with my parents, Mary and Ally. We were sitting in the lifeguard chair, reading. It was really windy and misty. There was a huge commotion all of a sudden. The lifeguards were racing boats in the water and there were cars driving along the beach. It was a race among all the other beach cities; Cape May, Avalon, Long Fort, Stone Harbor, Sea Isle, and Wildwood. It was cool.

Came back from the beach and showered. I watched some of the new Secret life of the american teen. Then I ate dinner and went to Mary's house. we played apples to apples and chilled.

Now I am at home and it's a little before midnight. I'm trying to get to bed early because I'm tired and run down from my allergies/cold. More tomorrow!

Day 2 - The many changes of Cape May

Today I woke up around 10 am. I had half a bagel (these things are important, ya know?). We walked around the block to our friends' house (people we met last year because of a cat - what else). They were leaving today for their home in PA so we wanted to say hi/bye. We got to see their house, so cool. Check it out: http://www.pageintyme.com/. After our good byes I met up with Mary and Ally at the mall.

I bought a cute pair of junky-ish blue flower earrings, a beach tag charm at Henry's Jewelry ($plurge), a fish plate that I'm using for necklaces and stuff from Whale's Tale and a bracelet that you can FILL with sand, so you always have a piece of Cape May (so cool. filled it today!) Wayy better than Tiffany's :) and lastly, sex on the beach scented soap scrub from A Place on Earth.

I walked to the boardwalk with the girls and then noticed that the Oasis is GONE. Tis terrible. I got a pork roll sandwich, fries and a diet coke from the Surf shack and headed home. I chilled up in my room and finished watching a movie while I cooled off. It wasn't too hot, but very humid at the beach. Luckily we have AC. So then around 3:30 pm I went to the beach with Mary and Ally and it was GLORIOUS. We spent a good 3 hours there.

Came home and took a shower outside (HALLELUJAH!) gotta love the outdoor shower. Except that it's old and I freakin' got locked in it! crazynesss. Then my cousin Jenn came over. We went out to Henry's for dinner. I had a crab cake sandwich and it was very good. We'll be better asbout eating tomorrow. So then we went to a few shops on the boardwalk, and then into the arcade for a few games of skeeball. Lastly, we got fudge. Mom, Dad, Mike and Jenn went home while I took a detour into a few shops. Nothing terribly exciting, I got magnetic bookmarks - which I love.

After fudge I went over to the Keenan's and hung out with Mary, Ally, Steve and Austin for a little bit. Now I am at home and am about to get ready for bed. Jeez, I can't believe tomorrow's Monday. This vacay is gonna be over before I know it!

Finally here, but quite a trip.

12:56 am and I am FINALLY hooked up to the internet and able to update my status and blog.

Leaving this morning was just chaotic. There were so many things to do, pack & tie down (roof rack) and of course it was POURING rain. Jeez, what else could possibly back us up? Oh yes, the 3 hours it took us to get to the Bay Bridge. Normally 1.5 hours away, but noooo, it took JUST three (insert "oh, she's being sarcastic" here).

But we left at 1:19 pm. Got gas. Peed. Got to the bay bridge at 4:27 pm. Had lunch at 4:48 pm. Antique store at 6:18pm. Got to the ferry at 7:31 pm - departed at 7:45 pm. Reservations for the 5:15 pm ferry? PSH. That was optomistic. Damn traffic. Oh sorry, I'm trying not to curse, but the traffic really was miserable. Boring. DEPLORABLE! I don't know if I used that word correctly.

So some of the way up it rained, but no biggie. Nothing SUPER important got wet - THANK YOU GOD! The ferry was very rocky. Ay ya yai. But no one threw up :) And so we got to Cape may and it was dark. This trip was the latest one we've ever taken - most miserable as well. But I texted Mary as soon as we started in the direction of home and she was waiting outside her house for me. I got out of the car and we ran to hug each other. It had been 2 years! We talked for a few minutes with her, went into the house to pee again. Then we left for Louie's to get dinner. We had cheese steaks, curly fries and onion rings. Yum. And 67 grams of sugar of LEMONADE. Gotta walk that off tomorrow. Unless I sweated it off tonight. As long as I don't gain back the 5 pounds I finally worked off, that's fine with me. But hopefully all the beach food won't make me bloat.

So after dinner we decided to skip dessert (WHATTT?!). We were just so behind on unpacking. We walked down Beache Avenue and up Jefferson street back to home. We stood on the Keenan's porch for a good hour, talking to Mary's family and their guests. We finally started unpacking around 11:30 pm. We discovered some of the roof rack items were wet. Just Mike's nerf guns and legos. Big whoop. Well, if I was him I would be angry! But rain is rain and you can't do anything about it. So while mom and dad unpacked the car, I cleaned out the freezer. It was pretty gross. Seeds and hair and UGH I could throw up. Then I put the sink water up that it was scalding, used dish soap to wash the ice cube trays (no icemaker - well there used to be one, not any more) and sterilized the trays! So we can have nice cold water when it's 400 degrees out tomorrow. It was really humid and sticky tonight. But I didn't complain about walking. That's like a freaking miracle. But then again, it was night time and not as hot.

I finished unpacking my room and stuff around 12:30 am. Now I should probably shower and get to bed early. Mary and her friend are going to church around 10:30 am for morning Mass and I will meet up with them and go shopping. Probably eat lunch out tomorrow too. Maybe we'll even hit up the beach - maybe. At least I'll get to ACTIVATE my debit card. Svweet.

xo, capemaychick.

Cape May today - 11 am and haven't left

So we are still currently at home, trying to gather the rest of our crap and haul our asses to the beach. We just haven't....left! This year was just an absolute packing nightmare. It's pouring this morning and the roof rack still hasn't been tied down to the car (even though it's sitting on top of the car, totally packed). I made plans yesterday to see 2 of my friends and then see my grandma for the last time before we leave, so I didn't start packing until about 5:30. I was good and was in bed at midnight and asleep by 1am. my parents were up past that packing. Jeez.

So hopefully we'll get the show on the FRICKIN' ROAD soon! I can't wait to see Mary and her family. Until then, I am going to the neighbors to deliver our uneaten food.

More in CM!

I pretty much have most of my things in my suitcase, but it has to be reorganized because i keep piling more things to take on top. And I have to do laundry as well. And I am seeing 2 friends tomorrow during 2 different parts of the day and have a lot of packing to HELP with as well.

Mary's IMing me from Cape May! Talk soon.

5 days & feelin' good.

I pretty much just cannot WAIT to be in the car, on the ferry, hugging Mary and eating good food soon enough! I started packing today. You see, I figured I would just pack pretty much everything that I'm not going to be using for the next few days, and then pack the rest of the things Friday afternoon. But if that is the case, I'll probably have to reorganize my suitcase a few times to get everything to fit.

I just never know exactly what I'm gonna need! I have to bring so much (my parents would yell at me for saything this, "YOU DON'T NEED THAT MUCH!" but I do. And then there are the items that have to be packed the morning we leave. Phone, computer, iHome, myself :).

The Saturday morning we leave (July 10) goes like this. Wake up around 9ish. Walk the neighbor's dog, feed their cat and then feed the other cat I'm caring for. Then I come home, shower, get dressed and help load the stuff in the car that we didn't load on Friday. And then we leave! Hopefully we'll leave around 10:30-11 am. But relisticly, I need to do the pet sitting and shower. Both my parents have to shower and we all have to get our butts in the car. Not an easy process when we're sharing ONE bathroom (yes, still). So hopefully everything will work out.

Off to pack!

8 days & damn; we need the beach!

Picture this: You go to take a shower, and leave the water running while you gather you shower things together. You stick your hand in the shower, checking to see if the water is hot enough to get in. It's ice cold. Not again, this is the third time this year that the hot water has been out! Yes, well that is pretty much my life right now. Aside from dealing with 6 cats that cannot be in the same room, a sick brother, an exhausted mother, a stressed father and only one functional shower (because the other is being renovated); that's my life currently.

Those 8 days cannot BE HERE FAST ENOUGH! I mean, we're all stressed and tired. Not to mention out of pretty much any edible food other than mints. We're loading up on the trash in the bathroom (it's taken out almost every day) and going through toilet paper like mad-men. It's just absolutely chaotic here. Throw in complaining relatives and difficult friends and we've got a full house. Not to mention one tv that is watchable (can't watch the other one because the construction workers are working in the room where it is).

Oh and how could I forget, a cat who is on steriods because she's allergic to the food we're feeing her, going through 5 cans of cat food per day, 35 cans a week. Oh and you KNOW what wet food does to the litter box...ew.

Yeah, let's just say that today I really need the beach. 7 days 12 hours....not soon enough!

Hopped of the Ferry in Cape May with my dreams and a cardigan! 10 days

AHH! 10 days! I am so incredibly, unbelievably, undeniably excited for the beach! 10 days, it seems like a dream! The weather right now in VA is actually pretty cool; 72 degrees F. I hope it's like that while we're at the beach.

Still to early to pack, but I will probably start laying stuff out on Tuesday. Maybe earlier, it's hard to contain myself. I've been looking in the Cape May newspaper and online at some of my favorite stores. In a store called Henry's (jewelry - not the restaraunt) they have these insanely cool "beach tag" necklaces which I'm dying to get. And at a store called Terry Ivory in Ocean City, they have Ocean City map necklaces, which I also will be getting, hopefully!

Oh and in other news: I GOT MY PERMIT YESTERDAY AND DROVE FOR THE FIRST TIME! I wasn't even scared. I couldn't stop smiling :) And next time hopefully I'll be allowed to use the gas petal instead of just the break. But I went around a curve as well as breaking, etc! So pumped to keep up with that. Can't drive in NJ with a permit, so I won't be doing any driving at the beach! Oh well. Something to look forward to when I come back.

Rain drops on roses & 12 days

Today there was a pretty big storm; thunder, lightning, and rain included. It made me think, if I was at the beach during a storm, what would I do?

Well during the storm today, I watched a little TV - until the power went out! Then I read about 100 pages in my book, and wrote a letter to my friend Lindsay.

If I was at the beach, well I'd pretty much do the same thing. Depending on how bad the storm was, I might walk to the mall or get something to eat on the Boardwalk. Of course, rain at the beach is really crappy luck, but when it rains - it pours and there is nothing you can do about it.

I'm so excited for Cape May. Just 12 days isn't too bad. I mean, every night before I fall asleep I remind myself that I'm just one more day closer to the beach. I have been listening to the ocean while I go to bed. No, not the real one (I wish); my mom had a CD of ocean sounds which I put on my iPod. Whenever I'm homesick for the beach I listen to it.

That's all for today's post.

17 days...hurry up already!

I've pretty much had it with waiting for the beach. What town could possibly have such an amazing appeal that I pretty much wish that I could spend the rest of my life there? I even thought once how awesome it would be to transfer to the school there. I might have been out of my mind at that point :) Hey! It was December/January, we were off school over a week, with 3 feet of snow. Let's just say I was bored and homesick (for the beach, that is).

I was thinking a lot recently about packing and our travel day. It's *technically* a four & 1/2 hour trip. And yet it takes us 7-8 hours. But we stop to pee, eat lunch and shop in antique stores. The ride from home in Virginia to the Lewes, Delaware ferry is 3 hours. Of course, we usually leave around 11am and get to our lunch destination around say 2/3 pm. We stop on the way ususally to get gas, antiques and to pee. Then after our lunch we get back on the road and probably stop one to two times to pee/antique shop.

YES WE LOVE ANTIQUES :) And on the way to Delaware, I know I'm almost there when I start to see Ferry signs! I get really exciteddd. And then when we go around the circle square (yeah that's an oxymoron) I know we're practically at the ferry. I look to the right out my window and see the old Word War II watch tower and I know the Ferry is on the right.

Once we park in the line for the ferry, we head in to the terminal to pee (yet again; there's a lot of coffee drinking going on in my family) and then browse the store, maybe get a snack and head back in the car and load onto the ferry.

The really EXTRA big ferry is a 90 minute ride across the Delware Bay. The smaller vessel is 70 minutes. On the ferry there are bars (not that any of us go there :)) and areas to sit outside to sightsee, giftshop, snacks, etc.

And once we unboard off the ferry, weare offically in Cape May. Voila! Well, that's all for this post because it's late and I have my last day of school tomorrow and have to get up early.

18 days!

Hello again. So there are now 18 LONG days until I go to Cape May. I'm really excited. but it feels so long, when I think of all the things I need to do between then & now.

1. 3 pet sitting jobs.
2. Fourth of July party.
3. Pool/chillin' with friends.
4. Saying good bye to my best friend.
5. Buying some beach stuff.

So yes, #4 is true: My best friend in the whole world (I call her Dogota) is moving to Florida. I'm so sad because we've been besties for 5 years and I don't know how I am going to get along without her. Totally gonna stink. But I'm really excited to now have a fun reason to go visit Florida! Well, I don't really have much else to say.

20 days

OOH OOH. 20 days until Cape May baby!

Jersey shore girls, we're unforgetable, cute sun dresses & aviators on top :)
East coast represent, now put your hands UP!

Haha, as you can tell I am very excited. I've been reading my past postings in my travel journal about what I did last year in Cape May. I can't beleive there was only 14 entries - 14 days. But those two weeks are like, the highlight of the year. Which sucks, because I'd love to go more often. Like up on long weekends, over spring break, etc.

This week I am finishing up finals for school. I have French, English, History and math exams left. I will be very happy once they're over, because it means I'm that much closer to going to CM!

Mary will be there 5 days before we arrive, and will stay the first five days of her trip. Then the day Mary leaves, Malia is coming. I am so incredibly excited to see Mary for the first time since 2008 and see Malia the first time since last summer!

Well, gotta study for English.

will update soon,

27 Days! Can't be tamed

Hey all! I cannot believe it's only a month until I go to Cape May! I am so unbelievably excited. It just doesn't seem real. Although I still have to get through about 4 finals and 2 weeks of school...so it's not soon enough!

So I'm very excited that my pen pal Mary will be up in Cape May for 5 days while I'm there. She gets to CM on July 5 with her friend Alli. I will come on the 10th and she's staying til the 15th and I'm staying until the 24th. We're going to have a fabulous time.

My bestie Malia is also coming to visit me while we're staying in Cape May. She'll be coming on the 16th. I don't know how long she will be staying. We'll have another great time like we did last year.

What I want to do while I'm there...hmm.

1. Visit the managing editor of the Cape May Star & Wave Newspaper & talk about writing a story for them.
2. Walk around and take amazing pictures with my new camera.
3. Visit with all my neighbors.
4. Make homemade toll house cookies.
5. Have a dessert party.
6. Go for a walk on the beach, early in the morning.

That's all I've got for right now, but there is plenty more.
Yesterday we sent some clothes to our friend in Wildwood who embroiders them for us. So I'm really excited to get those when we go. It was a hard time to decide what cats were going to be put on what shirt, as you can see from the pictures the cats all wanted to be on them!

39 Days & Schulyer

Greetings everyone! I can't believe how close we are getting to Cape May & summer! I am so pumped for everything. Cape May is going to be really special this year since my pen pal Mary and my bestie Malia are going to be there!

On another note, here is an interesting little story. We were at my fake cousins' house in Schulyer, VA (by Charlottesville), to can and preserve strawberries/bake pies. We had a great time - picture of and Thomas posted next to the post.

And here's what happened on the way home.

We Should've Learned From Memphis: Always have a leash in the car
After reading about how Pam & crew saved a homeless dog from Memphis, Tennessee, we should've learned to bring a leash in the car when heading around rural areas. Of course, the option to make a make-shift belt out of a belt and camera strap was actually a possibility.

It was about 7:45 pm when we were heading home from Schulyer (pronounced /sky-lar/), Virginia and we saw a very scrawny looking dog on the side of the road. He looked like he was scrounging around for food. He was very skinny; his rib cage was bulging out of his sides, and he looked like he had white goo coming from his eye.

The instant urge to rescue any lost animal hit us right there and then. How could we not pull over and see if he was someone's pet? He looked like he had a collar. We turned around and we saw some people outside.

Mom got out and asked if it was their dog, but they said no. They also said that he had been digging through their trash. He seemed annoyed that the dog was doing so. Their family dog didn't stop barking at us the whole time. Looked like a jack russell - maybe even a purebred. The one thing we couldn't make sense of, was that someone who had a dog couldn't have sympathy for a lost dog and try to help it. We got back in the car and started driving. I opened the window and scanned the road for him.

I saw him and yelled "Doggie!" and he looked right at me. And I knew from right there that we needed to do something to help this dog. Of course, mom and dad felt the same way too. We drove for what seemed like 5 minutes until we could find a plalce to stop on the side of the road.

We sat there for a few minutes. A lot of what if's, were tossed around.
"What if he has fleas?"
"Yeah, but what if he gets run over"
"We would all get fleas"
"But he'll end up getting hit by a car"
"The last thing we need is to get fleas"
"BUT HE'S GOING TO GET HIT BY A CAR!"

We then decided that we couldn't continue so we turned around. We found a drive way not too far from where we saw Schulyer (Yes, I had already named him) and we parked. We all got out of the car, started calling for the dog, whistling, clapping, etc. But no sign.

I knew from the way that Schulyer looked at me, he was obviously someone's pet. We called our family friends, with whom we were with earlier, to see if they knew the dog They told us that it was one of their neighbor's pets, so we felt somewhat relieved. But then again, he looked so skinny and helpless. He just had one of those "please help me" looks on his face.

But knowing that he was someone's pet, we couldn't take him. Of course the mystery still remains as to whether he is someone's pet.

Then another part of the party left around 10 pm that night and saw him wondering on the road. Clearly, not having found his way back home.

The saga may continue....

About 80 days

What if I can't wait 80 days to go to Cape May???
Ha, not like there is much of a choice since I'm sixteen and don't even have my driver's permit. I would just love to go to Cape May no. But clearly that's way out of the option.

What I miss most about Cape May:
1. Being carefree
2. Eating good food
3. The shopping
4. The small town atmosphere
5. Feeling alive
6. The hot sand sifting between my toes
7. Finding cute shells
8. Seeing the amazing colors that come with the sun set
9. The hot days and cool nights
10. That carefree TOURIST feeling that I don't really have that much because I'm not so much of a tourist as a native (who just doesn't live there :P)
11. The fact that I don't have school, homework, teachers and tests to deal with
12. The fact that I survived school
13. Looking forward to daily letters
14. Seeing stray and not so stray kitties
15. Taking pictures
16. Reading in the lifeguard chairs
17. Dressing in tank tops
18. No stress <3
19. The salty air
20. Just the calmness you feel while you're visiting the beach.

One day I will live in Cape May. I wish there were better universities there. I would love to attend and then live in Cape May. OHMYGOD. I want to get a job there next summer. Maybe I could stay with friends or family. Hmmm...

That gives me pause!

Well here's to keep on keepin' on :)

I hate lap top mouse pads. 86 days til Cape May

So currently I am in geometry class. Yes, posting in school...so bad. Haha! But we just finished taking an ecart practice test which I did TERRIBLE on. Geometry is so hard, I like algebra wayy better. But whatever, it didn't count towards our grades at all. So that's good.

I started a tumblr account this week. rshubin.tumblr.com.
Honestly, I know it's like a blog or something. But other than than it's confusing.

Right now I'm laughing at this girl in class because her test got really small on the monitor.

Well I should probably go focus...or maybe just finish this post.

I've been reading a lot the past few days and I can't wait to start posting some book reviews!

94 days & SVH/BSC

94 days til I go to Cape May, 94 more days, you take one down, pass it around, 94 days til I go to Cape May!

And daaaang am I excited. It's pretty much one of the few things that has kept me going the past few weeks.

On another note, there is some exciting newz. The book series BSC: The Baby Sitter's Club is going to have more books! Exciting, well I guess if you actually read the books it would be! But they mentioned that Sweet Valley High was going to be rereleased and there were also be a movie out sometime in 2011 or 2012. That's pretty exciting. I read the first 6 books that were rewritten last May/June. And I bought a whole bunch of the old ones on ebay/amazon so that I could continue to read them. I have only read one of the ones we bought online.

But Yesterday I was bored with this blogging book I was reading and was like hey, let's change it up. SO I read a Nancy Drew book and I can't deny the thrill I felt reading it.

So I might read the next Sweet Valley High Book I have. After another Nancy Drew of course!

Sorry doesn't always cut it

I've been thinking for a while that I wanted to write a book. Actually, I've wanted to be an author for so long that I don't know when I decided to. And it's only been recently that I was thinking about writing a book all about my life as a cat owner. I've been so inspired by the book Homer's Odyssey: How I learned about life and Love with a blind wonder cat bt Gwen Cooper and also Marley and me by John Grogran. I would want to start in the beginning of my life about my first two cats, Marsh and Ashley. How I grew up with them and they started the reign of cats. I'd talk about how those were the two first pet deaths I experienced. I'd also talk about the memories I have for them, even if they weren't mine. Like the time Marsh ate a brillo pad. And when Ashley curled up with me the night before he died.

Then I would launch into living 3 weeks without a cat and how completely life changing that was. Because in truth, I can't think of a more miserable time. Well I can, but y ou know how it is. And I would then discuss the first two kittens I ever had. May and Parker. And I'd discuss how we got inolved in the rescue and how we soon added Brooke and Vicki. And then I would talk about Parkers death and how we learned more about the rare disease he had and how it killed his whole litter. And how dad became very involved in the disease group, learning as much about it as possible.

Then I would talk about the empty void we had and how we went to look at another cat on my birthday, not expecting much and then finding Henry. And then I would talk about fostering and keeping Pearl. I would also find a place to add about our other fosters, Nick and how we rescued the cat Smokey/Sid. And then I would talk about all the times on summer vacation that we almost took home cats.

Two summers later I would discuss Sabrina our foster/kitty we want to keep and basically continue up to the present!

How does that sound? Woo, 2 postings in 6 days. Snazzy!

It's raining sunshine

Let the truth be known. I'm a slacker.
I promised myself for the past few months that I would update my page, but I never got around to it. But I was thinking today that I needed to do something else and well. Here I am.

SO not much is really happening in the fantabulous life of capemaychick. An acorn did just hit my roof. Fun facts :)

I had a dream about Cape May last night. It was so weird. I honestly have forgotten most of it, except I was in this shop. I bought these really cute earrings. And then I was on the beach and a huge canoe that was rebuilding the convention centre slammed into the store I had just bought the earrings in. It was bizzare. I hate dreams like that which make no sense.

115 days until Cape May! Holy Shiz. Can't wait. Should I start packing??
